A THERMAX infrared survey of Mechanical equipment usually involves moving or rotating equipment. Excessive heat is generated from friction which is caused by faulty bearings, inadequate lubrication, misalignment and misuse. There are multiple benefits gained through the use of an infrared survey
With some
electromechanical components, infrared surveys are the only inspection
technique which can determine if maintenance or repair is necessary.
For example, a survey might show hotspots on feeding brushes inside
a motor. This indicates poor contact due to uneven wear, and highlights
the need for replacement.
On the more critical bearings and gear boxes a trend analysis of the temperature can be done. THERMAX will then, using a windows based IRwin Report, be able to forecast when a critical temperature will be reached. Statistics for failures
